If you're from the South...

Awesome Deviled Eggs, originally uploaded by Kristianna.

...and you're invited to a party, bringing a bunch of deviled eggs is a no brainer. The only real worry is someone else (or maybe more than one other person) will also bring them, in which case you may suffer from having too much of a good thing.

But I don't live in the South. So I was not sure if people would be excited to see a couple dozen of these yesterday at a Memorial Day BBQ. Thankfully, they were gobbled down. I make a pretty good deviled egg, if I don't say so myself. :)

The secret is to use a good mustard. I prefer dijon--yellow mustard is just not worthy. The cut out carrot and beet slices were just for fun, because I am a dork and have to do these things to keep myself amused.

I live in the north and I'd be most appreciative if you showed up on my doorstep with those!

They look awesome! I LOVE the beet flowers. Love me some deviled eggs. . . but where's your egg dish? Yes, many of us southern girls own a dish precisely for this purpose: A deviled egg dish. Might have to get mine out for the next get-together. Definitely need to photograph it - Such a funny thing. a dish specifically for one purpose. Kind of like a Julep glass. Really absurd.

They were awesome. I wish I had some more right now. I dreamed about them last night. That is how great they tasted.

Annie, I have totally avoided the egg plate for my adult life. Just one more thing to find a place for the 99% of the time I'm not using it. I know, though -- it's THE thing to have. :)

I will have to make them for you more often, D. :)

What did you use to cut out the little flowers?

I used the smallest of a set of 3 flower cutters from Michael's. I love those cutesy cutters.

Very creative and beautiful!

As for me, I'm partial to ground mustard. :-)

I could see mustard powder being good, too. But it could get hot quickly. :)
